The MRI-Linac: The Future of Cancer Treatment

The Australian MRI-Linac technology at the Ingham Institute is one of only three in the world. It is an Australian-first initiative where radiation and imaging of tumours is done both in real-time, more effectively targeting radiation towards the tumour. The unique design of the system gives Ingham Institute cancer researchers the ability to position the treatment or radiation beam in two different arrangements which has not been possible before. This will allow our researchers to investigate the best way of using this machine to ensure the effectiveness of treatment, offering greater potential of improving patient treatment methods across a broad range of cancers.
